Have you noticed how major newspapers often republish articles from other newspapers, (of course with permission)? So for example you’ll be reading the Grand Forks Herald and find a story about the new Canadian Museum of Human Rights, and see the story is ‘reprinted with permission of the Winnipeg Free Press’. In such a case, BOTH newspapers win: The Herald gets to put fresh and interesting content in front of it’s readers, and the Free Press benefits by additional exposure to its’ brand. Such syndication has been common in the newspaper industry for decades, and it is now available in the blogging world as well. If you’re a blogger, here are two ways you can use this feature to your benefit.
Do you need new content for your blog?
If you find yourself running short of fresh content, or time to write it, you could consider using syndicated content ON your blog. Much like the Herald in the example above, you would be putting fresh content in front of your readers, thereby helping to keep them coming back for more. All of Winnipegs Real Estate Blog posts are now available for syndication. So for example, if you are a mortgage broker, real estate lawyer or any other profession even remotely related to investments, real estate, home ownership or anything about Winnipeg, you could find an article such as 4 Types of Condominiums and repost it onto your own blog, quickly and easily and totally legally.
Do you publish regular content?
If you publish a blog with fresh, interesting content, you might consider syndicating your posts. They could appear on other blogs and, much like the Free Press in the example above, YOU would benefit from added exposure and additional ‘google-love’. Because Google recognizes YOU as the originating source, link-love goes to YOUR blog, without harm to the syndicator.
How it works
It’s all automated and arranged thru a service called repost.us.
- If you want to syndicate YOUR posts, they have a plugin for wordpress blogs, but other platforms are supported as well.
- If you NEED fresh content for your blog, they have hundred’s of thousands of articles on their site, ready for re-posting onto your blog with the click of a mouse.
Try it with this post about the Winnipeg Forks National Historic Site. Just click on the small “Repost” button in the top right corner of the article, and follow directions on how to copy the html code. All you need is the ability to copy and paste html code into a new blog post.
