Clean your home on a budget, and environmentally safe!

.clean your home

Spring is arriving and with it, the muck from slushy streets is also in abundance. We can’t control whether or not we’ll get splashed by cars on the street or how much grit will stick to our shoes, but we can control the cleanliness within our own homes!

Many cleaning products can be pricey, especially if you’re trying to be eco-friendly. By using a couple basic ingredients that are likely already in your home, however, you’ll be able to wipe away any traces of dirt and clean your home while also maintaining a toxin-free, environmentally-friendly home.

This is especially an important time of year to keep your home clean, because Winnipeggers are more likely to be venturing out of their houses and visiting friends now that the temperature outside is bearable. And if you are looking to sell your home at this time of year, keeping it spotlessly clean will definitely be an asset.

Use the following ingredients to clean your home today:

1) Baking soda. Not only is this a staple in baked goods, baking soda will also work like magic when you clean your home to scrub away tough stains and stubborn caked-on grit. Combine it with water to make a paste; wipe the dirt off with this solution and it will be good as new. If family members or guests are tracking muck across your floors and carpet, baking soda will be your new best friend.

2) Vinegar. Mix vinegar with the aforementioned baking soda in a pail of hot water and use it to mop up any grime in your entranceway. This is an efficient way to clean your home and make it welcoming for any visitors who might be walking through your door.

3) Hot water. There’s nothing like hot water to eliminate bacteria! Although it works best if combined with the above two ingredients, it can also be used on its own in a pinch to clean surfaces in your home.

4) Baby oil. If you want an extra bit of shine to the floor after you remove the mud, consider adding a few drops of baby oil to your pail. It’s a quick and easy way to clean your home and to make it really sparkle.

5) Lemon juice. Like baby oil, this ingredient is mostly aesthetic: a touch of lemon can add a lovely fragrance to the air as you clean your home. All you need is a squeeze of lemon mixed into your pail of hot water.

Whether you’re looking to sell your home or you’re simply entertaining friends and family, keeping your home clean is a great way to welcome people inside. Use everyday ingredients to ensure that when you clean your home, it remains toxin-free and environmentally-friendly – without breaking the bank or causing a great deal of hassle on your part.
